Security and Crime Task Force

While the Farrington's Grove Historical District is a generally safe and quiet area, it is in a municipal setting and certain activities occur that can disturb the safety and serenity of the area.  Despite the patrol routes of the local law enforcement agencies, those activities often occur unnoticed at the time they occur.  However, the residents of the District can become the "eyes" of local law enforcement without placing themselves in danger, thus lowering the potential for illegal activity.

The FGHD Security and Crime Task Force has been formed to explore ways in which the safety of residents can be improved, and is moving to establish programs aimed at meeting the goal of resident safety.  The programs will be presented on this page as they continue to be developed. and are presented on this page.

The Security and Crime Task Force is always looking for District residents that would like to become more actively involved.  If you have an interest in serving on the Task Force, please contact one of the Board officers listed on the left side of this page.

The FGHD Nosey Neighbors Program

The "Nosey Neighbors" program is designed to take advantage of residents' observations of what is happening in their neighborhood.  The program is somewhat passive, unlike those calling for neighborhood patrols.  Rather, the program encourages residents who observe activities "out of the ordinary" and reports those activities to the local police.  To monitor the effectiveness of the program, we ask that residents, after reporting suspicious activity to the police, complete an online form available here.  The Terre Haute Police Department has asked us to build a log of calls, response times, and results of the original call from a "nosey neighbor."  Maintaining a log and sharing it with police supervisors will assist them in allocating resources to improve safety and security in the District.
